The rest was history.” – Jake Isaac for CentralSauce I met Tertia through a mate/artist friend of mine who used to play in my band, Lydia Evangeline…she introduced us and said she thought we’d get on like a house on fire. The only commitment I made to myself concerning the writing process was to be honest. I wrote the song in the 1st week of lockdown over here in the UK after setting myself the task of tryna write 10 songs over the first few weeks. It’s not easy to crack that list, but this song has done it. They’re songs that I want to sing to my significant other as we make that decision to spend the rest of our lives together. I have a set of songs that are on my wedding playlist (yes I’ve thought about this extensively even though I’m hopelessly single). Their musical synergy and chemistry makes the song endearing and appealing. Isaac says that “Tertia has become like a sister to me, her voice is sublime and I’m a massive fan of her art” and I can hear it. Related Sauce: Why We Like It: Matt Nye’s “Love and Other Drugs” They’re vocal souls that come together in such beautiful harmonies that they touch mine. While some duets have voices that contrast in their register but compliment each other, Isaac and May’s vocals are rich, decadent and more similar in tone. His fate is in their hands and the hands that take his heart are Tertia May’s. Isaac sees this love as the clear path and objective for his life because it’s the thing that keeps him good. I’ve always felt a sense of imposter syndrome in a relationship…almost like if they ever found out I’m rubbish at this whole love thing they’re gonna up and leave me in a heartbeat.” – Jake Isaac for CentralSauce The instrumental is a score that’s there to amplify the voices involved and luckily, those voices are clear and upfront in their emotional delivery. It sets the tone as the instrumental comes in with lo-fi guitar strings and drums after these words are sung. There’s no instrumental, no chord introduction, no lead in. “If you knew me you’d know I loved you” are the opening lines sung by Isaac. Another song I can add to that esteemed list is Jake Isaac and Tertia May’s “Good”. When I try to think of some, Nao and Kwab’s “Saturn” come to mind and so does Eric Benét and Tamia’s “Spend My Life With You” as they ease my racing mind. There are plenty of duets but only so many can make that impact. Masculine and feminine energies joining forces cradle my heart. This is especially true when it’s a man and a woman. There’s something about duets that just warm my soul and hold me in their embrace as they play out. The duo provide a soulful duet that melts hearts on “Good.” The song is from Isaac’s upcoming album Honesty that’s planned for an early 2021 release.
